Meet Gail Hosford
Galus 'Gail' Hosford is a multidisciplinary circus artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Starting their circus journey in Atlanta, Gail has been teaching and training circus full time since the age of 17. They then went to Circadium: School of Contemporary Circus and graduated in 2026. Over this half decade, Gail had created work from flying pole to crawling on the floor, directing to performing, ensemble work to solos. One of their proudest performing moments is their flying pole piece they created and directed within the show Where Wild Waits, that they and their cohort got to perform at the Circle Festival in Auch, France. Looking toward the future, Gail plans to create more and more innovative work.

What does it mean to be human? What are the traits that make us different or similar? These are the questions I had growing up, hearing of the theories from my anthropologist mother and archaeologist father. Taking the social norm and contextualizing it was the way of my house. Now, I wish to do the same with my art. Weaving the emotions and perspectives that make us universally human. How do we bend and twist to intertwine ourselves again? The human condition stirs me to create unfamiliar, inventive work no matter the form. Rooted in humanity, my circus encompasses work from flying pole to hula hoops. I believe humans were made to connect, to feel, to hurt, and create. I strive to entangle the differences in perspectives I’ve seen, from the big city streets I walk on to the rural corn fields of my relatives. When I am on stage, I work to see through the audience’s eyes and for them to see through mine.
